This report contains the results of the 2009 Student Outcomes Survey for students who undertook vocational education and training (VET) with adult and community education providers in Australia. The 2009 Student Outcomes Survey targeted students who completed recognised vocational training in 2008 with a Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institute, private provider, or an adult and community education provider in Australia. The survey is used to collect information about the general demographic characteristics of both graduates and module completers as well as their fields of education, employment outcomes, occupations and industries of employment, and satisfaction with and opinions of their training. While comparisons can be made between graduates and module completers from adult and community education providers there are intrinsic differences between the groups that should be noted. For example, the survey found that graduates from adult and community education providers generally had a younger age profile than module completers (23.4 per cent of graduates versus 7.8 per cent of module completers were aged less than 25 years). This and other factors are likely to affect training outcomes differently for both student groups limiting their comparability.

The results are reported in four sections: Summary of outcomes for graduates/module completers; Key findings for graduates; Key findings for module completers; and Frequency counts. While the first three sections summarise the collected data, the Frequency counts section contains, for each question, the numbers (weighted and unweighted counts) and percentages for students from adult and community education providers. Appendices to this report contain supporting survey information, including a description of the methodology, terms and definitions used, and relevant materials including the questionnaire.
